Home Study Program
What is Independent Home Study?
  • A free public school (K-12) educational alternative
  • An at-home teaching environment
  • School District support including a credentialed teacher, curriculum, materials and other resources
  • Parents providing day-to-day support for their child based on a written agreement
Advantages of Independent Home Study
  • Provides one-to-one support for students
  • Curriculum is individualized
  • Students may progress at their own pace
  • Accommodates various learning styles
  • Greater flexibility of school time
  • The community becomes the classroom
  • Educational continuity can be maintained while traveling
How Does it Work?
  • Parent submits an application and meets with the teacher.
  • An independent study agreement is signed, an orientation is held with books, materials, and assignments distributed.
  • Meetings are held regularly with teacher to provide support.
  • At the end of the agreement period a progress report is completed.
What is provided?
  • Credentialed teacher for support and supervision
  • Textbooks, workbooks, teachers' editions
  • Health screenings and services as needed
  • Access to assemblies, activities, grade level field trips and outdoor education

Home Study Class Programs
  • Weekly enrichment classes
  • Special activity days and fairs such as bookbinding, plays, speech and debate, oral presentations, science fair, project fair, and winter craft fair.
  • Home study field trips
  • Lending library of trade books, math manipulatives, science kits and equipment, videos, tapes, parent resource books and more.
