POUSD 2020-2021 Reopening Plan
3A message from Steve Charbonneau, Superintendent
Dear POUSD Community,
On this date, April 14, 2021, I am pleased to announce the district has an agreement, a “Memorandum of Understanding” (dated April 1) and an addendum to that agreement (dated April 8), with the Piner-Olivet Educators’ Association (our teachers’ union) for reopening. I want to highlight some of the details in that agreement here, in order to inform POUSD families what reopening will look like at POUSD. First, as part of our negotiations process, we were able to reconfigure our original staggered reentry plan so that more students, can return for the hybrid program before the end of the school year. Please find that information below:
Student Group/Grade-Level Span Reentry Date
Special Education (SDC, RVP, SCOE Program) ---- April 12
TK & K ---- April 26
1-3 ---- May 3
4-6 ---- May 10
7-12 ---- May 17
Please note, Families will be notified a minimum of two weeks or more in advance regarding their opportunity to choose the hybrid program by their student's school. We will do everything possible to accommodate all families who opt for a hybrid program. Should the demand be greater than we are able to accommodate safely, we may implement a “Student Study Team” process and/ or a lottery protocol to enroll students equitably. The weekly hybrid schedule can be found HERE (updated 4/16).
In addition, school sites will be able to plan social and/or enrichment activities, specifically benefitting student groups who were not able to return for hybrid or who have had minimal hybrid program experience due to time constraints. These activities will only take place when hybrid classes are not physically in session, after 12 noon each school day with the exception of deep cleaning days. More information about these opportunities will come directly from your student's school.
As your student’s opportunity for a hybrid option draws nearer, you will receive more information directly from your school site. Until then, please review some of the information and documents we will need families opting for a hybrid program to agree to and/or sign:
