Northwest Prep Academic Exhibition - February 6 at 6:00 pmNWP's first Academic Exhibition for this year will be held Thursday, Feb. 6th at 6pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. Everyone in the Piner-Olivet School District community is invited to this series of presentations demonstrating the process and products of the past semester's integrated Project "Why Do I Matter?" SCOE Network UpdateInternet connectivity will be down on Sunday, February 9th, 8:00-2:00 pm and on Thursday, February 13th between 3:00-5:00 pm. During this time, SCOE will completing the last phase of the network upgrade. The good news is that after they are finished (February 13), we should see a significant improvement in our bandwidth. Just in time for Valentine's Day. Thank you for your patience throughout the upgrade process. ResourcesDistrict Faculty Meeting: Tech Tuesday EditionAt our recent DFM, we offered a variety of sessions on Chromebooks, Google Docs, student blogging and digital citizenship. In case you were not able to attend one of these sessions, you can find many resources from the sessions on the POUSD Tech Tools Blog. ChromebooksKathy Schrock's Guide to Everything is aptly named. Kathy is a Technology Integration Specialist (aka Techno-Goddess or, if you prefer, Technology Rockstar -- to find out more click here). On her site, she has a variety of resources on using Chromebooks in the classroom. You can access her guide to Chromebooks here. The Brokers of Expertise (BOE) is an online platform where where you can connect with other California educators, get FREE resources and access online training modules to meet the needs of all students. You can access these resources anytime, any place with an internet connected device. You can check out the BOE site here. You can also view a short video on how to set up an account by clicking here. ReadWorks provides research-based passages and question sets for use in your K-8 classrooms to improve your students' reading comprehension. ReadWorks is completely free. To access these resources, register for an account. As always, ReadWorks curriculum is research based and aligns to Common Core State Standards. The 2014 Doodle for Google Student Competition invites students to share their ideas. "Before there was an airplane, there were doodles of cool flying machines. And before there was a submarine, there were doodles of magical underwater sea explorers. Since the beginning of time, ideas big and small, practical and playful, have started out as doodles. And we’re ready for more. One talented young artist will see his or her artwork on the Google homepage and receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for his or her school."
